Myth or Fact: Does employee choice drive productivity

This is the question driving companies today on allowing employees to still have a choice on where, when and how they choose to work is will they be productive. Several recent studies are proving that employees given the choice to work flexible hours is showing to not just maintain the status quo, it is increasing productivity

Flexible working hours can lead to increased productivity in a number of ways. For one, it allows employees to better manage their time. If an employee knows they have to be at work from 9-5, they may try to cram as much work as possible into that time frame. However, if they have the flexibility to start and end their workday when it suits them, they can better manage their time and energy levels. This can lead to improved focus and concentration, and ultimately, better work quality.

In addition to increased productivity, flexible working hours can also lead to enhanced job satisfaction and in turn better retention of your talent. When employees feel like they have more control over their time, they are often happier.

And according to a study conducted by ManpowerGroup Solutions, nearly 40% of global candidates report that workplace flexibility is among the top three factors they consider when applying or staying at a job.

Not only does this increased productivity lead to enhanced profitability for organizations, but it also reduces stress levels for employees. When employees feel like they have a good work-life balance, they are less likely to experience burnout. This is beneficial for both the employee and the organization- happy employees tend to stick around longer and are more productive while they are with the company.

Studies have shown significant improvements in productivity and morale when employees are given the option to work according to their own schedule. In fact, a survey by Airtasker found that flexible workers on average work 1.4 more days every month than traditional office workers. That's 16.8 more days per year.

So, what's the bottom line?

Flexible working hours can be a win-win for both employees and organizations. Employees are happier and more productive, while organizations see statistically proven increased profitability in early studies and improve retention and turnover.
